San Jose de Guaviare - Guaviare
The town of San Jose de Guaviare, is the capital of the Guaviare department, and is located in the north near the limits with Meta department.
It has an altitude of 200 mts and an average temperature of 26C.
The town of San Jose de Guaviare, is also known as the “Entrance to the Jungle”, because of the change in landscape from the flat plains of the Orinoquia region into the humid forests that are typical in the Amazon region, to which it belongs.
Alongs its territory flow the rivers of Guaviare, Guayabero and Inirida. Part of its territory belongs to the Chiribiquete Natural National Park, and the Nukak Natural Reserve. It is also home to the indigenous reserves of Guayabero, Sikuani and Tucano.
Its main economical activities are agriculture, fishing and cattle, as well as being home to a great number of coca plantations, which the Natonal Government is trying to erradicate and substitute.
