Andes Region – Quindío

Located in the heart of the Andes region, Quindio is one of the principal tourist destinations of the country. The capital is Armenia.
Thanks to the natural landscapes it is possible to experience different agro tourism and ecotourism activities.

Quindío department is the ideal place for the practice of rural tourism, where it is possible to rent country houses especially in Quimbaya and Armenia, where the tourist can increase the knowledge about the Coffee Culture of the region.

The habitants of the zone are very kind, nice and happy people and are always willing to help the tourists showing them the most beautiful places of the department.
This is an excellent characteristic not only in Quindío but in all the departments that are part of the "coffee zone" or the "coffee triangle"

Coffee Zone/Coffee triangle

The Coffee zone is known here in Colombia as the tourist destination conformed by the departments of Caldas, Quindio and Risaralda. Nowadays we are working in order that this beautiful Colombian destination became known worldwide increasing the visit of foreign tourists, that's why, and with that purpose that the "Coffee Triangle" was born.
Quindío is part of the Coffee Triangle: "Where Colombian Coffee takes life". Here you can find everything related to the best coffee of the world.

 

 

 

Places to visit in Quindío

LOS NEVADOS NATIONAL PARK

This park constitutes one of the most excellent natural regions of the country; it is one of the biggest water reserves, and habitat of unique species found nowhere else in the world.
It has approximately 58.300 hectares and it borders with the towns of Villamaria in Caldas, Pereira and Santa Rosa de cabal in Risaralda, Salento in Quindio and Libano, Herveo and Ibague in Tolima. It is located in the highest part of the Andes.
The area includes five volcanic craters: The Tolima, Quindío, Paramillo of Santa Rosa, Santa Isabel and the Ruiz. In the National Park, the temperature varies along the year between -25 in the snow and 18 centigrade degrees.

COCORA VALLEY

It is located aprox. 35 km away from Armenia in Salento. The temperature is of 15°C. Here it is possible to realize activities such as camping, cavalcades, and treks. Besides, you can also appreciate the Palm of Wax, the Colombian National Tree.

MARAVELEZ VALLEY

It is located in the Municipality of Tebaida and it's characterized for its outstanding natural landscapes. There is the Monkeys Forest and Monte Bello's Forest. There, cavalcades can be enjoyed.

Activities that can be realized in Quindío:

PARAPENTE: In Calarcá from the "Alto del Castillo" or from the "Cerro de las tres cruces" in Buenavista.

BALSAJE POR EL RIO LA VIEJA: Between Quimbaya and Montenegro; 1.600 mts above sea level, with beautiful landscapes and waterfalls.

KAYAKING and RAFTING: In Buenavista's Municipality, in the Barragán River, catalogued as third category in the international classification of rapids. Aprox 8 kms of travel. With all the international safety requirements.

CALOPY: In Alcala, about 30 kms away from Armenia; tours of aprox 2000 mts long in different places with its respective launching places.
