The topography near the town is mostly flat, with few ondulations, typical topography in the amazon.
Puerto Leguizamo has an altitude of 115 mts and its average temperature is 28C, with high humidity.
Inside the municipal borders of Puerto Leguizamo we can find many rivers including: Putumayo, Caqueta, Caucaya, Curilla, Mecaya, and Nasoya rivers.
The most important economic activity in town is cattle, followed by agriculture, fishing and minery.
The town development has been slow since it doesn’t count with any road connections with the rest of the country. But this same disconnection has preserved the natural beauties around town, some of which are now part of La Paya National Natural Park. La Paya has a great diversity of animals and plants, and its a paradise for nature lovers, who may be able to encounter pink dolphins, different species of primates, parrots and macaws, dantas, “butterfly” tigers, as well as a great variety of fresh water fish species.
